Lisa T says:

useful When I travel I like to have some sort of book that can help me in a pinch. I’ve come to enjoy the Lonely Planet phrase books s they’re small and packable, but gives a good overview of many things you may need. I have to admit I haven’t used this one as much now that I’m living in the country, but it’s nice to have something to reference when you first arrive and are trying to figure out the basics like numbers and greetings.

Carly says:

Easy Quick Reference I used this as a supplement to my Amharic Language study books when I was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Ethiopia (and when I couldn’t find my notes). While some of its pronunciations I would argue are a bit off depending on the regions you’re visiting, it’s useful if you’re just visiting for a short time and want to learn a few phrases, or need to look up a word you forgot.

Patrick says:

Very helpful, but not without error This little booklet is a great introduction to a very complex language. It can be most helpful in learning greetings and some basic words. Don’t expect perfection or a comprehensive textbook, but as an introduction it is hard to beat. Most Ethiopians will be impressed that you even try.
